Deel's own pages give different headcounts depending on when they were written. The about page says 4,000+ team members, a June 2025 post by the founders gives 6,500+, and YC lists 5,000. Treat each as the figure its source published, not a current count. Deel's homepage doesn't name a headquarters city.
What Deel does
Deel sells software and services that let a company hire people in other countries, pay them in their local currency and keep the paperwork compliant with local rules. YC's page describes it as one platform for HR records, payroll, compliance, benefits, performance tracking and equipment, covering every worker type. The Deel homepage lists these product lines:
- Deel Payroll. Local and global payroll, run on Deel's own payroll engine.
- Deel HR. One HR system for every worker.
- Deel Hire. Compliant hiring in other countries, which Deel says takes days.
- Deel Benefits. Plan setup, enrollment and payroll deductions.
- Deel IT. Devices, software licenses and support for staff anywhere.
- Deel Mobility. Visas handled in-house, end to end.
The homepage also says Deel pays out in 150+ currencies, including crypto, and has processed more than $20 billion in payroll. Customers named on Deel's about page include Shopify, Nike and Klarna.
Who runs Deel
Alex Bouaziz is cofounder and CEO of Deel, and Shuo Wang is cofounder and chief revenue officer, as Deel's leadership page lists them in October 2026. The other leaders on that page:

Joe Kauffman | President and chief financial officer |
Philippe Bouaziz | Executive chairman and chief strategy officer |
Dan Westgarth | Chief operating officer |

Harish Sharma | Chief risk officer |
DeAnn Work | Global corporate general counsel |
Anthony Rodriguez | Chief compliance officer |
Joe Kauffman joined as president and CFO in November 2025, after more than a decade at Credit Karma, where he served as CFO, president and CEO. Deel funding and valuation
Deel has raised money from venture investors, mostly in lettered rounds, with its valuation climbing from $5.5 billion in 2021 to $17.3 billion in 2025. The table lists the rounds with amounts and valuations that Deel, its law firm or major reporting published.
Round | Date | Amount and valuation | Investors or detail |
|---|---|---|---|
Series D | October 2021 | $425 million at a $5.5 billion valuation | Led by Coatue, with Altimeter Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Neo, Spark Capital, YC Continuity Fund and Green Bay Ventures (Orrick; Deel) |
Unlabeled round | May 2022 | $50 million at a $12 billion valuation, per unnamed sources | Emerson Collective reported as lead; Deel declined to comment (TechCrunch) |
Series E | October 16, 2025 | $300 million at a $17.3 billion valuation | New investor Ribbit Capital, with existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Coatue Management; General Catalyst and Green Bay Ventures also took part (TechCrunch; Unleash) |
Reports describe the Series E leads differently: TechCrunch calls Ribbit Capital and Andreessen Horowitz co-leads, while Unleash says Coatue co-led too. Deel's totals also differ by date. Orrick put total funding at over $630 million after the 2021 round, and Deel's November 2025 announcement, quoted by People Matters, says it has raised over $1 billion. The same announcement described Deel's recent executive hires as preparing it for future opportunities in the public markets, without giving a date.
Deel acquisitions
Deel has grown partly by buying other companies, and The Next Web counted the August 2026 Clarity deal as its 15th acquisition. The deals announced since early 2025:
Company | Announced | What it does | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
Safeguard Global's payroll business | March 11, 2025 | Enterprise payroll services, with its team (Safeguard is a Workday partner) | |
Sastrify | May 2026 | German software procurement and spend management platform, now part of Deel IT | |
Clarity | August 3, 2026 | Israeli identity verification and deepfake detection startup; reported at $45 million to $50 million |
Deel didn't disclose a price for Safeguard's payroll business or Sastrify. Earlier deals include PaySpace, a payroll and HR company operating across Africa and the Middle East, acquired in March 2024 according to the American Payroll Association.

- March 17, 2025: Rippling sued Deel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging racketeering under the RICO Act and trade secret misappropriation over a Rippling employee it says passed information to Deel. Deel said: "We deny all legal wrongdoing and look forward to asserting our counterclaims" (CNBC via NBC New York).
- April 2025: Deel sued Rippling in Delaware Superior Court, alleging among other things that Rippling placed an insider at Deel, and asked the California court to dismiss Rippling's case (TechCrunch).

- February 2026: Judge Charles Breyer allowed Rippling's racketeering and trade secret claims to proceed (The Next Web).
- September 2026: Judge Breyer rejected Deel's request to bar testimony from the former Rippling employee, sent Deel's main counterclaims to arbitration, dismissed its domain-name claims and let some of its false advertising claims against Rippling go forward. None of these rulings decided the merits of either side's claims (The Next Web).
No court has ruled on whether Rippling's allegations are true, and no criminal charges had been reported as of October 2026.
