Bobby Alternatives in 2026: Typed In, Read From Email or Pulled From Your Bank

The short answer

Bobby suits iPhone users who want a simple list they type themselves, with no bank login. Leave it for ReSubs if you need Android, TrackMySubs for email alerts and shared recipients, Wallos to self-host, Rocket Money for bank-linked detection and cancellation help, or Merlin if you use Gmail on a Mac.

We make Merlin, one of the tools on this page. Every claim about other tools is checked against their own sites.

The Merlin team9 min read

The best Bobby alternative depends on one thing: how you want your subscriptions to get into the tracker. Bobby has you add each one yourself. ReSubs and Merlin can read them from Gmail, Rocket Money finds them through your linked bank accounts, and TrackMySubs and Wallos stay manual but move the list off the iPhone.

Maybe a renewal slipped past you, or a partner's Android made a one-phone list awkward. Whatever sent you looking, the options below are grouped by how charges reach them, since that decides how much typing you do and how much access you hand over.

Should you leave Bobby at all?

Bobby remains a good fit if you have an iPhone and a list you're happy to keep by hand. Bobby, sold by Yummygum, is a Finance app whose App Store listing describes a library of hundreds of services plus custom entries, an overview of upcoming bills with total spending, and notifications when a bill is due. Its release notes add iCloud sync, a setting for what time notifications arrive, a way to temporarily disable a subscription, and daily exchange rates for mixed-currency lists. The listing shows 4.7 out of 5 from about 8,000 ratings.

Cost is small. The download is free, and the in-app purchases listed are packs rather than plans: an All-in-one Pack at $2.99 (an older version is listed at $1.99), and $0.99 each for Unlock Subscription Limit, Unlock Category Limit, Security Pack and Visual Pack. None is labeled monthly or yearly. Those names imply the free version has limits, though the listing doesn't give the numbers.

Nothing on that listing mentions connecting a bank. If what you value is a cheap list that sees only what you type, few options below beat it, and you can stop reading here.

Where Bobby stops, according to its own listing

Four facts from the App Store listing explain why someone might look elsewhere:

  • You enter everything. Each subscription comes from the library or a custom entry, so a new charge doesn't appear unless you add it.
  • Apple devices only. The listing covers iPhone, Macs with Apple silicon and Apple Vision. It says "Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS," doesn't list iPad, and names no Android version or web app.
  • Notifications, not email. The listing describes notifications. It doesn't describe email alerts or sharing a list with another person.
  • A slow release pace. The latest version listed is 3.10.4, from December 9, 2025, and the one before it is from June 10, 2025. For a small utility that may not bother you.

Check Apple's own list first

If most of your subscriptions were bought through the App Store, you already have a free tracker. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions; in the Mac App Store, click your name twice, then Subscriptions. Apple's support page says anything billed by another company has to be traced through your bank or card statement, and that's the gap the tools below try to fill.

You type it, but off the iPhone: TrackMySubs and Wallos

TrackMySubs and Wallos keep Bobby's model, with no account linking, and change where the list lives and how the alerts reach you.

TrackMySubs: alerts by email, to more than one person

TrackMySubs suits people who want Bobby's manual list without relying on phone notifications. Its homepage lists Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, email alerts before each payment with timing you set, and several recipients per alert. It adds a 12-month payment calendar, folders and tags, spending reports, CSV import and export, and a Zapier connection.

The pricing page lists a free Starter plan for 10 subscriptions with no card, Unlimited at $10 a month or $99.99 a year, and Enterprise at $30 a month or $299.99 a year for multiple users. That's a recurring bill for tracking recurring bills, which Bobby's packs avoid, so try the free plan first if your list is short.

Wallos: your own server, your own data

Wallos is an open-source web app you install yourself. Its site says your data stays on your own server and offers categories, multiple currencies, statistics and a layout that works in mobile browsers. The GitHub project shows a GPL-3.0 license, installation through Docker or a PHP web server, and payment alerts by email, Discord, Pushover, Telegram, Gotify or webhook.

No hosted version is mentioned, so you supply the machine and handle the updates. Anyone already running a home server will find this an easy add; for everyone else it's a lot of setup for a list.

It reads your email: ReSubs and Merlin

Many services email a receipt, so an inbox can stand in for the typing. You grant access to your mail rather than your bank.

ReSubs: the phone-first swap, for iPhone and Android

ReSubs is the nearest like-for-like if you want a phone app that also runs on Android. Its site describes one list synced across iOS and Android, alerts before renewals and before free trials end, a payment calendar, price history, and import from Gmail, photos or PDFs, with you choosing what gets added. Its comparison page says it works with no bank access and places Gmail import in the Premium tier.

Pricing takes some reading. The App Store listing shows Premium weekly at $2.99 or $4.99, monthly at $4.99 or $7.99, yearly at $13.99 or $17.99, and one-time at $24.99 or $49.99, without saying why each comes at two prices or what the free tier allows, so check the paywall before you commit. That listing's developer-supplied privacy label also lists identifiers as used to track you, worth knowing if privacy is why you want a no-bank app.

Merlin: a renewal calendar built from your Gmail

We make Merlin, so treat this section as the maker's view. Subscriptions is one panel in a broader Mac assistant for your email, calendar, meetings and web errands, not a dedicated tracker. It reads about the last thirteen months of your connected Gmail accounts, both services' receipts and your bank's or card's charge alerts, then draws a month calendar with each service's logo on the day it charged or is expected to renew. The bank alerts are how it catches a service that never emails a receipt. Merlin's privacy policy says it doesn't sell your personal information, but it gives no retention period for email and doesn't address AI training, so ask if that decides it for you.

Each service opens into a card with its price, renewal date and the number of receipts behind it. Remind me sets a reminder for the day before renewal. Cancel it starts a task in Merlin's own browser, where you may need to sign in, and nothing is confirmed until you approve it. Merlin can also flag a free trial about to charge, a yearly renewal within three weeks or a failed payment, saying "around" a date because dates are estimated from past receipts.

Bobby does several things better. It shows a spending total and lives on your phone, while Merlin has no monthly total and no phone app. Merlin also has no price-change alerts, runs only on Macs, requires a Google account, and delivers reminders only in chat and as desktop notifications. It sees only email, so a gym with no receipt or bank alert won't appear until you add it with Track one, and it doesn't pick up rent, utilities, loans or insurance on its own. Merlin's free plan comes with 5,000 credits a month and needs no card, and keeping the panel up to date costs none. Browser tasks such as cancelling spend credits by what each one actually costs, with no fixed price per task; Pro is $29 a month or $278 a year, per Merlin's pricing.

It watches your bank: Rocket Money

Rocket Money is the far end from Bobby: you link accounts and it does the finding. Its FAQ says it spots recurring charges once accounts are connected, that logins go to Plaid, which covers more than 12,000 US financial institutions, and that you can unlink at any time. It's also a budgeting app, with a help center covering both iPhone and Android, so expect more in it than a subscription list.

The free plan includes subscription tracking, spend reviews and bill reminders, per its help center. Premium is a sliding scale you pick, which Rocket Money's plan comparison puts at $7 to $14 a month, subject to change, with a 7-day trial. Premium adds a team that cancels subscriptions for you, usually in 2 to 10 days, and web access; the free plan is mobile only. Premium+ is $15 a month plus tax and adds an AI assistant. The help center says bill negotiation moves to Premium+ only from November 2, 2026, while the plan comparison still shows it on every tier, so confirm in the app if that's the draw.

How to choose

  • You have an iPhone and a short, stable list: keep Bobby. The packs cost less than a single month of any monthly plan here.
  • You or your partner use Android: try ReSubs, which keeps one list across both.
  • You want alerts by email, or more than one person told about a renewal: TrackMySubs, on the free plan if you have 10 subscriptions or fewer.
  • You don't want a company holding the list: Wallos, if you already run a server.
  • You don't know what you're paying for: Rocket Money finds charges from your bank and can cancel for you on Premium.
  • Gmail and a Mac are already your setup, and a bank link is out: Merlin's calendar shows what your mail reveals, and you can start without paying.

None of these sorts out a charge that isn't what it claims to be. If a renewal email looks wrong, read our guide to spotting fake renewal notices before you click anything. And if the "subscriptions" bothering you are newsletters, you need an unsubscribe tool, not a tracker.

Moving your list out of Bobby

Plan on retyping or re-detecting your list, because Bobby's App Store listing doesn't mention an export. This order keeps a renewal from falling through the gap:

  1. Note each yearly subscription and its next renewal date, since a new tracker has seen those charges least recently.
  2. Set up the new tool and let it import or detect what it can.
  3. Compare it with your Bobby list and add what's missing by hand.
  4. Keep Bobby's notifications on for one full billing cycle, then delete the app.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bobby available on Android?

Bobby's App Store listing covers iPhone, Apple silicon Macs and Apple Vision, and names no Android version. ReSubs and TrackMySubs both list Android.

What does Bobby cost?

Bobby is a free download. The App Store lists in-app purchases from $0.99 to $2.99, including an All-in-one Pack at $2.99, with none labeled monthly or yearly.

Is there a subscription tracker that finds subscriptions without a bank login?

Yes. ReSubs can import from Gmail on its Premium tier and says it needs no bank access. Merlin reads receipts and bank alerts already in your Gmail, on a Mac.

Can Merlin replace Bobby?

Partly, if you use Gmail and a Mac. Merlin finds subscriptions from your mail and can start a cancellation for your approval, but it has no phone app and no monthly total, and it doesn't detect bills like rent and insurance.
